Who should get massage? Simply put, everyone! In today's fast-paced world, there is no denying the benefits of bodywork. Experts tell us that a high percentage of disease is stress related. Massage can without a doubt help manage stress, anxiety, and pressures of life. In addition, clients often say that they receive a sense of perspective and clarity after a massage session. Furthermore, massage therapy is almost always an integral part of every athletes routine. The physical demands of rigorous training schedules are taxing on muscles and joints, and massage therapy can help athletes bodies prepare for and recover after events.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage utilizes deep-tissue/deep- muscle techniques to affect the sub-layer of musculature and fascia. These techniques require advanced training and a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. The muscles must be relaxed in order to effectively perform deep-tissue massage, otherwise tight surface muscles prevent the practitioner from reaching deeper musculature. It helps with chronic muscular pain and injury rehabilitation and reduces inflammation-related pain caused by arthritis and tendinitis. It is generally integrated with other massage techniques.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery.  Massage therapy can be useful to an athlete pre-event, post-event, and for treatment of an injury. Sports massage is designed to enhance athletic performance and recovery. Pre-event massage can be preformed onsite and helps to establish blood flow and to warm up muscles. Post-event massage can be used to calm the nervous system and begin the process of flushing toxins and waste products out of the body. This can reduce recovery time, enabling an athlete to resume training much sooner than rest alone would allow. When an athlete sustains an injury, skillful massage therapy can often speed and improve the quality of healing.

Medical Massage

Performing medical massage utilizes specific treatments appropriate to working with disease, pain, and recovery from injury. Your massage therapist might work from a physicians script or plan. The therapist also may work within a hospital, physical therapy setting, or some other medical setting.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage, also known as relaxation massage, is of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques. Swedish massage is a vigorous system of treatment designed to energize the body by stimulating circulation. Five basic strokes are often used, all flowing toward the heart and used to manipulate the soft tissues of the body. The client is covered by a sheet, with only the area being worked on exposed. Therapists use a combination of kneading, rolling, vibrational, percussive, and tapping movements, with the application of oil, to reduce friction on the skin. The many benefits of Swedish massage may include generalized relaxation, dissolution of scar tissue adhesions, and improved circulation, which may speed healing and reduce swelling from injury.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology Tape can be used to treat sports and non-sports injuries, including shin splints, plantar fasciitis, runner’s knee and back pain. How does it work?  The adhesive tape microscopically lifts the skin away from the muscle and fascia below, creating a decompressive effect. What are the benefits?  Relieves swelling through decompression which speeds recovery.  Increases awareness of your body position to help you maintain proper posture and form.
